OUCHES (מִשְׁבְּצֹ֥ות). A word used in the KJV and ASV meaning “settings for precious stones” (Exod 28:11, 13, 14, 25; 39:6, 13, 16, 18; RSV SETTINGS). Since the Heb. word is derived from a verb meaning “to weave,” it prob. refers to a filigree setting—woven gold thread or wire. In the OT it refers most often to the gold settings of the engraved stones in the breastplate of the high priest.
