OBED ō’ bid (עﯴבֵ֔ד; NT ̓Ιωβήδ, G2725, worshiper of, or slave of). It is a common name in OT. Since those bearing it are apparently unimportant, it may be an abbreviation of Obadiah.
1. Son of Ruth and Boaz (Ruth 4:17, 21, 22; 1 Chron 2:12; Matt 1:5; Luke 3:32).
2. Son of Ephlal, a descendant of Jerahmeel (1 Chron 2:25, 37).
3. One of David’s mighty men (1 Chron 11:47).
4. Son of Shemaiah and grandson of Obed-edom, one of the Korahite doorkeepers of the Temple (1 Chron 26:7).
5. Father of Azariah, one of the captains who helped Jehoiada to depose Athaliah (2 Chron 23:1).
