¹⁸ ^(A) They don't even fear God.”

¹⁹We know that everything in the Law was written for those who are under its power. The Law says these things to stop anyone from making excuses and to let God show that the whole world is guilty. ²⁰^(B) God doesn't accept people simply because they obey the Law. No, indeed! All the Law does is to point out our sin.

¹⁸ “There is no fear of God before their eyes.”^[a]^(A)

¹⁹Now we know that whatever the law says,^(B) it says to those who are under the law,^(C) so that every mouth may be silenced^(D) and the whole world held accountable to God.^(E) ²⁰Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God’s sight by the works of the law;^(F) rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin.^(G)
