⁹^(A)And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked.

^(B)Now that day was the Sabbath. ¹⁰So the Jews^[a] said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath, and ^(C)it is not lawful for you to take up your bed.” ¹¹But he answered them, “The man who healed me, that man said to me, ‘Take up your bed, and walk.’”

John 5:9-11

New International Version

⁹At once the man was cured; he picked up his mat and walked.

The day on which this took place was a Sabbath,^(A) ¹⁰and so the Jewish leaders^(B) said to the man who had been healed, “It is the Sabbath; the law forbids you to carry your mat.”^(C)

¹¹But he replied, “The man who made me well said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk.’ ”
